One of the first steps in any community development process involves some form of inventory. Identifying the existing resources and assets, noting their proximity and accessibility. Effective asset mapping not only identify available resources, it also identify areas of deficiency.

Listening is an important part of any endeavor. Active listening, is crucial for community development. When asked how they feel about their community most people sharethat they are disregared ad feel irrelevant. Thi feeling is in large part due to them not feeling heard. Active listening is a skill that we not only teach but facilitate so that all voices are accounted for.

There are many things that separate individuals within the community. Race, religion, age and culture all play a role in dividing neighbors. While these factors hae traditionally separated us, they ae the primary reasons we should join together. C-X-O intentionally creates space and opportunity for neighbors to connect and share with one another.

It takes a lot to move a person into action, but when you find something that people are passionate about, they will move heaven and earth to see it through. And moving earth is often all it takes to form lasting relationships and to affect change. Engaging the community in activity keeps the lines of communication open and encourages them on the possibilities of tomorrow.
